Personal Data Protection Regulation To Be Discussed in Prolegnas 2016

JAKARTA (IndoTelko) - The new bill on personal data protection regulation will be discussed on the national legislation program (prolegnas) 2016.

"We need the protection regulation, Only Indonesia and Laos that does not have such regulation in Southeast Asia. Currently Laos have submitted the bill into their parliaments. We would only begin to submit ours next year," said Director General of Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics Freddy Tulung after meeting with Commission I of the House recently.

Freddy said that Indonesia need regulation that protect personal data given that the misuse of user personal data recently. For example, spam messages sent directly to the customers that offers banking products where occasionally contains fraudulent content.

Some business sectors are also requires such regulation such as banking, telecommunications, e-commerce, and trade.

"This regulation will make the user know when the data can be opened for private and used for personal interest vice versa," Freddy said.

The regulation will be regulating on disclaimers setting process, then the permit to open and closing of personal information’s.

Earlier, Minister of Communication Rudiantara revealed Indonesia will have the Personal Data Protection Act which aims to protect telecommunications services users from data misuse by irresponsible parties.

Personal Data Protection Act is not a new thing in the world as Germany has already implemented this Act, the name Bundesdatenschutzgesetz (BDSG) to protect its people from fraud.(es)
