JAKARTA (IndoTelko) - The increasing occurences of mobile phone users personal data leakages has made operator database audit action is urgently needed in Indonesia.

"The leakage of personal data is already done massively. Even it has become a major concern to the community," said Telecommunication analyst DR. Bernaridho Hutabarat in a statement, yesterday.

According to him, the occurrence of telecommunication user's personal data leakage is reasonably suspected to be done by the operator itself. "Therefore, all operators must be audited for their entire database. Thus, direct short messaging and unknown call to the customer, can be tracked optimally and comprehensively," he said.

Technical Directives
Bernaridho also proposed that Indonesian Telecommunications Regulatory Body (BRTI) to make technical directives related to the audit database. The goal is to solve on the matter of direct advertisement sms or call to the costumer which has been disturbing the public.

"At least, the technical directives that I mean is a comprehensive way to audit database of all existing operators in Indonesia," he explained.

On the same occasion, a Telecommunications Law Observer Winahyo said regulators should conduct comprehensive protection against telecommunications users in Indonesia in order to create a healthy climate and telecommunications to provide comfort for consumer.

"We should abolish the concept that the consumer only need the operators. It should be changed as oerators and consumers need each other," he said.

The regulatory body is expected to immediately strengthen the regulation in the field of consumer. Besides consumer personal data protection, the regulatory body should formulate benchmarks utilization of personal data set out in the Consumer Protection Act.

It will make any fraudulent practices or the misuse of personal data can be monitored and known immediately. "In today's information age, database is the sexiest "merchandise". Therefore, the BRTI should immediately issue a regulation in favor of the consumer," he said.
