JAKARTA (IndoTelko) - The government through the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (Kemenkominfo) confirmed that it will issue regulation that users must register their IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity)to the operator.
"In 2017 the IMEI registration regulation would certainly applied. We want to synergize it with the prepaid registration as well, this is all in order to suppress the entry of illegal goods," said the Director of Standardization of Post and Information (PPI) Administrator, Bambang Suseno after attending the launch of Hisense Pureshot smartphone.
Bambang expected that the new beleid can suppress the illegal entry of imported mobile phone products. "It is also great for user if they lost their cell phones, just file a report and the IMEI would be detected and blocked. So the cell phone Would not work anymore," Bambang explained.
He added that these regulation would also impact for users who purchase goods from overseas and it turns out the IMEI is unregistered, and consequently the device can not be used in Indonesia.
"There can be no double IMEI, especially for 4G smartphones. It's been a directly global from there. Later the IMEI number will be verified by the Ministry of Trade and Industry," Bambang concluded.(es)
