JAKARTA (IndoTelko) - The government through the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (Kemenkominfo) will change the costumer registration scheme for telecommunications services.
Currently, the customer registration provision for telecommunications services is stipulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Communication and Information Technology Number 23 / M.KOMINFO / 10/2005 on registrations of the Customer Services.
The ministry's spokesman Ismail Cawidu said that in the latest Ministerial Regulation draft bill will be discussed on the prepaid customer’s registration consisting of basic principles, pre-paid customer's identity data, procedures for registration of prepaid subscribers, the activation and prevention of misuse of pre-paid subscriber numbers.
"Besides, there was also a post-paid customer registration, customer data storage such as common transitional provisions which will include procedures for re-registration of prepaid customers and sanctions against prepaid subscribers. Monitoring and control and administrative sanctions," he said recently.
Currently Indonesian mobile teledensity (telephone density) has reached 128%. However the Ministry has observed the means of inherent communication to almost every citizen of this country has been misused by some people to commit a crime through diverse modes of fraud and crime. These mobile service misuses happen due to the perpetrators can easily purchase the SIM-card without having to show identification such as ID cards, driver's license or Passport.
The Ministry has tried to tighten the prepaid registration procedure by using the Citizen Identification Number as one of the technical measures related to the verification of the registration of prepaid card customers.
There are seven operators who are ready to implement the use of identification number namely Telkomsel, Indosat, XL Axiata, 3 Indonesia Hutchison, Smartfren Telecom, Sampoerna Telekomunikasi Indonesia and Telkom.(es)
