MOUNTAIN VIEW (IndoTelko) - Nuage Networks, the Alcatel-Lucent venture focused on software-defined networking (SDN), announced momentum in customer adoption of its SDN solution in the first year since the business was launched.
As SDN solutions become more prevalent within complex data centers, Nuage Networks has cultivated a marquee list of customers and participated in more than 30 successful trials with Fortune 500 enterprises, leading cloud providers, and telecommunication companies in an effort to achieve more agile cloud environments.
In just one year, Nuage Networks has been selected for use within the networks of leading global companies, including financial services and healthcare companies, cloud providers like Numergy , telecommunications providers like TELUS and NTT Communications, and infrastructure providers like IDC Frontier Inc. and Evonet.
For enterprises and their service providers, it matters how quickly users can access applications or get services. This means that network environments need to be as flexible and responsive as cloud computing environments.
The network must provide policy-driven connectivity to support applications placed anywhere in the infrastructure, and be instantaneously reachable by users. This consolidation and automation of network services is the goal of software-defined networking.
As a result, increasingly rapid adoption of SDN is prompting enterprises and service providers to rethink traditional network practices. They are seeking best of breed tools that can ensure an open multivendor SDN approach to joining their network and cloud infrastructures, while ensuring compatibility with existing environments.
“In recent customer surveys and market engagements, IDC has noted that overlay-based network virtualization is drawing interest and adoption from a growing constellation of customers with increasingly virtualized application workloads,” Brad Casemore, Research Director, Datacenter Networks at IDC said. “Perhaps not surprisingly, Nuage Networks also has gained significant momentum since its launch a year ago, achieving customer adoption at large enterprises, cloud providers, and traditional telecom providers. With a common policy framework that addresses both virtualized and physical workloads, Nuage Networks is tackling a range of hybrid cloud environments that require an underlying network infrastructure capable of supporting secure multitenant services.”
Nuage Networks was introduced in April 2013 to provide enterprises, cloud and telecom providers with the tools needed to enable a holistic cloud networking infrastructure. According to IDC, 2014 will be a year in which enterprises will be challenged to adopt new products and technologies while simultaneously protecting investments in personnel, processes, and existing tools. Automation and programmability are critical for operational agility and business success. These factors create the need for a programmable, open, multivendor SDN solution.
"In the year since Nuage Networks was launched around the same time as my own arrival at Alcatel-Lucent, it has already become recognized by the industry for its game-changing technology and for understanding the way CIOs think about operating their networks,” said Michel Combes, CEO of Alcatel-Lucent. “It is the perfect example of the kind of entrepreneurial innovation Alcatel-Lucent, under its new specialist focus, is now bringing to market."(es)
