Indonesian To Revise Telecommunications Act in 2016

JAKARTA  (IndoTelko) - Indonesian telecommunication Law revision No. 36/99 is yet to be listed in the 2015 National Legislation Program, but it is on the way, an official said.

"The Telecommunication revision bill is not yet listed in the Indonesian Telecommunications Prolegnas priority this year, but it will begin to be discussed this year," said Chairman of the House Committee on Information Tantowi Yahya in a text message to IndoTelko, Monday (9/2).

Tantowi said that there are three bills revision this year namely Act No. 11 of 2008 on Information and Electronic Transactions (UU ITE), the Draft Law on Broadcasting, the Draft Law on Radio and Television (House of Representatives/DPR).

"The Broadcasting and the RTRI (Radio, Television of the Republic of Indonesia) draft bills from the Commission I are ready to be submitted. The revision on The Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) Law amendment is limited, only the problematic sections will be revised," he said.

On Monday (9/2), the Parliament held a plenary session to set the 2015-2019 Prolegnas. A total of 159 bills that was proposed by the House of Representatives, Regional Representatives, Government and the society will be discussed by the Parliament during the next 5 years. This year alone, there are about 37 bills to be discussed.

Earlier, Indonesian Minister of Communication Rudiantara proposed a discussion on Personal Data Protection Act which aims to protect telecommunications services users from irresponsible data misuse.

"The protection of personal data is a priority issue and becomes government's proposal in the National Legislation Program (Prolegnas). Besides, we also proposed a Revision on Act No. 36/99 on Telecommunications. We and the Commission I also agreed to undertake the revision of Law No. 11/2008 on Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE), in particular Article 27 from the beleid," Rudiantara in January after hearing (RDP) to the House's Commission I, Tuesday (27/1).(es)
