JAKARTA (IndoTelko) - Telecommunication operators who occupy a frequency of 1,800 MHz began the channel rearrangement on Tuesday (5/5), which starts in Maluku
"According to the initial agreement, the 1,800 MHz frequency refarming phase started in Maluku at 00.00 hours. Telkomsel has prepared a number of technical issues, including informing the customer via SMS, "said Telkomsel Vice President of Technology and System Ivan Cahya Permana in Jakarta, Monday (4/5).
Ivan said that Telkomsel had been anticipating any follback (re-occupy its original canal) events to occur in case of system failure.
"This is more like training exercise to begin heavier cluster traffic. The Maluku Telkomsel has around 800 base stations that need to be refarmed. If it can communicate well with three other operators, then it can be done more smoothly in high traffic areas," he said.
Ivan said that there are two operators to conduct channel transfer channel namely Telkomsel and XL, meanwhile Telkomsel, Tri Indonesia and Indosat would be done on Wednesday (6/5) night. XL and Indosat would be done next week.
"So the rearrangement would take up to a week in one area in accordance with the new rules, side by side. We do not install 4G technology because only about 10 thousand customers who are considered ready for LTE. We want to install the 4G technology in 1800 MHz 4G in Makassar before July. Then next week would doing the arrangement in Maluku, Papua, Sulawesi and Kalimantan," he said.
XL Axiata Public Relations Manager Henry Vitello said that XL has also prepared a number of technical supports for rearranging the canal.
"We have 10 units of 2G base stations in Maluku. We're ready to do the arrangement according to mutual agreement, both schedules, mechanism, and the location," he explained.
As is known, the government has decided to reset the 1,800 MHz frequency which will start in Maluku on May 4th. The four operators are occupying the 1800 Mhz frequency, namely Indosat, Telkomsel, XL Axiata and PT Hutchison 3 (Tri) Indonesia.
The rearrangement started in Maluku on May 4, 2015 and is expected to finish in Jakarta on November 23, considering there are 42 clusters that must be done using the step-wise method alias combination of direct and indirect. Operators are expected to spend US $ 500 per BTS for refarming in the sake to open the 4G at 1.800 MHz. (es)
